the bare essentials part 3

Back when I drew this these Rag and Bone boots were on my wishlist. One Shopbop sale later and I'm happy to say they are mine! My khaki Isabel Marant Dicker boots have seen me through the past two years, but I've spent the past few months trying to find their equivalent in black. I love the pebbled leather (a bit easier to care for than suede) and they are super comfy too. I haven't seen this label in Australia before, but I have to say I'm a new fan!

murmur

Gail Sorronda is one of my favourite Australian designers and has been since the very first time I saw her show at Sydney Fashion Week back in 2006. I remember seeing the 'Sweet Tooth' dress (pictured above) and thinking how much I would like it to be mine! Many shows have past since then but this dress still hangs in my closet along with a few other treasured pieces collected along the way.

Last year Rohan designed the lookbook and show invitation for the SS10 collection, Murmur. This was the first season where Gail introduced colour (a touch of bronze), and as always I loved the inspiration behind the collection.

"There’s a low continuous drone like a cloud of mosquitoes blanketing the sun. Distant murmurs on an island, their apparition drowned out in an oceanic swell of noise. Opiates have dulled the senses. Chemicals pattern the sky. The funeral procession is met head on in a solemn ceremony.

The beaded armour offers protection from the evil eye as the Sirocco wind starts to blow; whispering and touching us softly like raindrops. Our human instincts emanate from the heart. This beat is our sound."

- Gail Sorronda Blog

We are looking forward to seeing the SS11-12 collection on Monday night, in the meantime I just need to work out what to wear!

I hope everyone had a lovely Easter! About a week ago my friend Hannah and I went to the opening of Zara's first Australian store, it was busier than we expected but we still came away with a few good purchases. This panelled tote bag was my favourite find from the day, did anyone else brave the crowds?

We were also excited to see Rohan's Belinda mailer pop up on The Look Book, one of our favourite new Australian blogs.

the bare essentials part 2

The Celine Cabas. One of my friends is lucky enough to own this guy in black and it is even more amazing in real life than in photos. The leather is buttery soft, the size perfect and I just love the subtle gold typography in between the handles. I can't wait to play with these next year in Paris. The Cabas may be a bit out of my price range but I'm hoping the little sister pochette will make it back with me. Bliss!

the bare essentials part 1

Most of the drawings I have been working on lately are based around dream outfits. This Isabel Marant jacket is the first, I've tried it on at work (a few times) and each time I love it more.
I have been reading the blog Dead Fleurette about one girls search for a perfectly edited wardrobe, this includes refining your selection to choose classic pieces you know you will love forever, like this jacket!

la chamade

It's been a busy last few weeks, but this is one of the projects I have been working on which I really enjoyed doing. Australian fashion designer Amy Kaehne asked me to design her new swingtag, we ended up going for something quite subtle and and soft which perfectly suits her brand aesthetic. I also received my beautiful hand-knitted cardigan from her current winter collection La Chamade.

Oh and I had my haircut too, quite a few inches shorter!

sofia

I'm on mid-semester break now which means I can finally paint my nails, catch up on some drawing and have a Sofia Coppola movie marathon. The Virgin Suicides in one of my all-time favourite films (and books) and I absolutely love these images of Sofia's personal style.

two results of a little image-array program I made in processing. it's quite fun. you start it up and it draws and colours depending on where your mouse is.
