look forward

Thank you for all your entries in the Pared Eyewear competition and congratulations to the winner, Miffy!
I'll be in touch soon to arrange your prize.

It's officially the first day of spring on Sunday and I'm looking forward to what will hopefully be a very warm next six months. I love this lookbook shot from Pared's last collection and the stunning Kinga Rajzak for Pop magazine to get me in the mood for summer. Speaking of sunglasses and the new season, it's also time for Badlands to look forward too. I've been meaning to update the blog for a while and I'm very happy to announce to that in a few days time you'll be re-directed to the brand new Badlands, hope you love it!

those summer eyes x pared colours comp

There is nothing like a new pair of sunglasses to get you excited for the new season! These Puss & Boots framed by Pared made their debut this weekend as we enjoyed more unseasonably warm weather in Sydney. Their new collection is a tribute to the coveted lifestyle of the Rat Pack , mid century modern architecture and the spirit of Palm Springs in the late 50’s. The collection celebrates the outdoors,
the sunshine and the landscape of this desert oasis.

To celebrate, Pared are giving you the chance win my frame colour of choice (I couldn't go past the smokey grey with silver)! To win all you have to do is follow Badlands on Bloglovin and leave a comment below with an email address in case you're the lucky winner.

The competition is running from the 19th - 23rd of August and the winner will then be chosen at random. For more chances to win you can also head to Pared Eyewear's facebook where they will be giving away an additional 5 pairs and via instagram by following @paredeyewear and reposting the image using the #paredcomp

When one of my favourite New York-based fashion designers, Gillian Tennant, sent me some pictures of her studio in Tribeca it was love at first sight. Gillian has an incredible eye for subtle minimalism with a feminine touch that is all her own and I couldn't wait to find out more about her space. Thanks Gillian x

Your space is absolutely beautiful! Tell us a little about the building and its history.

Thank you! I live with my husband and my dog, Molly, in an old artist's loft in the downtown neighbourhood of Tribeca. Our building was built in the mid-1800's and at that time, Tribeca was the textile district of Manhattan. Our building was a factory for the manufacture of yarn, twine and rope. The space we live in is very untouched - it still has many of its original quirky features (that we love) including wonky timber floors, 16ft wood beam ceilings, exposed brick walls and a very cute cast iron fire escape. We are lucky enough to live on a small, quiet street and have a roof terrace that overlooks the city.

How would you describe your decorating style?

The city can feel quite grey and grungy so as an escape from that, I try to keep the inside of our home light and fresh. The first thing we did when we moved in was paint every surface white! Our style is a real mix - vintage, tribal, high and low end pieces all live here. But I like to think that the result is a very delicate and soft look.

What is your favourite piece of furniture?

I have a few favourites around the home! Our vintage safari chairs for the comfort, the Moroccan carpets for the feel and I love the little light fittings that hang over our dining table - we made these ourselves and they look so fragile and pretty.

What is your favourite thing to do at home?

Create!

What are a few of your favourite NYC addresses for the home?

to consider

Winter may be nearing an end, but I'm still finding myself making wishlists from the latest international arrivals. That Phillip Lim coat (which is sold out everywhere!) and a stunning Balenciaga coat (keep dreaming) have been inspiring my current winter looks. I just picked up an oversized duster coat from Topshop and a Zara skort to see me through to spring but there are still a few little things...

1. Ryan Storer ear cuff, so simple and so beautiful.
2. Gold hair barette
3. Knitwear (Whistles and La Garçonne are a favourite)
4. A new print, because if Dries Van Noten has taught me anything, it's that one beauifully
printed garment can update your entire closet.

p.s. Speaking of closet updates, Our Closet Sale is now back up and running.
Hannah and I will be adding more items over the next few days!
