the row part 2

Another one of my favourites from NY FW11 fashion week was The Row. I was in love with their pre-fall collection (so sleek) and this has me even more excited for winter! Particularly because of the leopard print loafers (pictured below are the ones I bought recently from Sportgirl) and the addition of mustard, blue and blush pink.

I love the idea of the fur hat too, I'm lucky enough to own two Vanessa Bruno runway samples from a few seasons ago, those big and fluffy Russian winter hats in grey and white. I don't know if I'll ever be brave enough to wear them though.

new work

my latest direct mailer for belinda, for spring/summer 11 - it's a poster halfway between a3 and a2, which folds down to dl. black & two fluro pms colours. i haven't done a poster in a while, so having this much space to work with was a nice change.

Rodarte

Pure perfection from Rodarte's FW11 collection inspired by the Terrence Malick film Days of Heaven. It's all country style soft blues, neutrals and wispy wheat prints meets prim and proper with just the right amount of tailoring and geometric lines.

cuffed

Tafe is back and full swing and yet I find myself distracted by FW 11 show coverage and the quest for the perfect cuff. I love all these guys! I'm looking forward to seeing collections from my two New York show favourites, Phillip Lim and Karen Walker.

Now off to study... !

booked

A few good books we read last year...

Rohan

War and Peace - Leo Tolstoy
The Count of Monte Cristo - Alexandre Dumas

The Master & Margarita - Mikhail Bulgakov

Talisa

The Road - Cormac McCarthy

Dark Star Safari - Paul Theroux
An Education - Lynn Barber

Also reading wouldn't be the same without a lovely cup of tea. If you're in Sydney I recommend heading to Mamak on Golbourn St in the city, they make a traditional Malaysian sweetened tea which is stretched between two cups to make it nice and frothy.

when i was little, there was a property near the local petrol station that had a row of low grassy hills covered in a huge number of tall, straight trees. i'd only ever see it on the drive home from the petrol station if i turned around at the right moment, but for a few seconds there was just this great view of what looked like some sort of magical european-style forest. i always wanted to go in there but never could.

lately

I have been enjoying working on a few freelance projects over my holidays; this one is a custom illustration for an invitation, the client being a very stylish young girl.

the curve of forgotten things

Elle Fanning is one of my new favourites after seeing Sofia Coppola's Somewhere, so I was delighted to hear she was the star of the new Rodarte short film The Curve of Forgotten things directed by Todd Cole.
You can have a look at the teaser trailer below, but the full film premieres tomorrow on Nowness.

It appears to be set in a dreamy cottage which reminds me of the interview I read with the Mulleavy sisters in Interview magazine. They talk about their idyllic childhood growing up in Northern California, mustard fields and apple orchards...beautiful!

wrapped

I have been loving really crafty things lately, particularly the blog Hello Sandwich and the Japanese gift wrapping book my friends got me for christmas. For me the fun is all in the wrapping, Rohan and I usually scribble all over a piece of cartridge paper to wrap up friends presents. I really love the idea of the confetti bow as a decoration or using my favourite paper tape from MT Deco for some colourful wrapping fun.

1 & 2. Hello Sandwich blog and gift wrap zine, 2 & 3. My Japanese wrapping book, 3. Laduree gift box, 4. Doily jars from Frankie Magazine blog.

heatwave

Snapped by Rachel trying to stay cool during the heatwave. We ended up having icy lychee and mint frappes from La Buvette in Potts Point...yum!

small is not so small, but so beautiful

So my obsession with Isabel Marant SS11 is showing no signs of stopping, and the mainline collection hasn't even arrived yet! I can't wait to wear my cotton knit sweater and I have my eye on some of the jewellery. My favourites are the little beaded braceletes with a contrast fabric puff, and I love the dustbags they come in.
Isabel's Mr. Hatman always knows what he is talking about whether it's the 'make mondays as fun as saturday nights' tote bag or the 'small is not so small, but so beautiful' jewellery bags.

Also, don't you just love this photo taken by Elise Pioch (buyer for the corner shop) prior to the Isabel Marant store opening in NYC.
