career cool

"Karriere Cool" (Career Cool), Elle Denmark January 2013

I just came across this editorial and have fallen completely in love!

I often wonder what I would wear should I have to work in more corporate environment - as a freelance graphic designer and stylist my daily uniforms consists of mostly t-shirts, simple button-ups, jeans and sneakers. I do like the idea of dressing a little bit sleeker and Carven-esque during my working week though, not to mention having perfectly waved hair and groomed brows. With the exception of days where I'm painting and drawing, think I might give this a try!

beauty notes

My latest post for Vogue Spy Style is all about my favourite beauty buys from Nars in NYC.

Pictured here is the lipstick in Falbala which I have been wearing with Laguna bronzer and Orgasm blush for the perfect Summer look. The eyeshadow duo is part of their exclusive in-store range, 413 Bleeker - can't wait to try applying it as an eyeliner as shown to me in store.

for winter

When Hannah tagged me in a picture of that Row sweater as it made it's way through a beautiful Upper East Side apartment I knew it was love. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have proved time and time again that they do classic so well, but it's their playing with proportions that always draws me in - the oversized cable-knit sweater paired with relaxed trousers was my favourite look from the show.

While the weather is still warm here, Winter collections are slowly starting to arrive in stores and I'm on the search for that perfect chunky-knit sweater, preferably in ivory that I can wear with a pair of boyfriend jeans or slouchy trousers.  More on this soon!

for a rainy day

On the afternoons where it's been too rainy to step out for my usual afternoon walk/coffee run I have been putting together an inspiration folder for the upcoming season. Having worked on a few great shoots and styling projects lately (more on this soon) my desktop is covered with inspiration boards and image references. These are a few of my favourites for right now...

1 & 3. Manning Cartell AW 13 campaign - Love the shape and colour of the first jacket and the matching sweater and shorts set!

2 & 4. Garance Dore - I'm still very much having a jewellery moment. Tiny rings met with the occasional larger stone are a favourite, as are layered fine necklaces and earrings. I haven't owned a pair of earrings for the last few years but ManiaMania, BRVTVS and Ryan Storer are set to change that. Also, it's time for a new pair of black pumps, these Prada ones are beautiful but I'm on the lookout for something a bit more affordable.

5. Vogue China - All of my favourite colours for Winter paired with those leopard print Celine shoes. Amazing.

central park

A collection of polaroids I took one particularly sunny day in Central Park.

Like true tourists, Rohan and I had $5 burgers at the Boathouse Express Cafe.
Hopefully next time we can dine in the actual restaurant à la Carrie and Big!

new rose

Karen Walker Fall 2013 'New Rose'

The KW girl is all grown up. I love the long duster coats, structured tops, knitwear and that the shoe and sock combo still works so well. And again, khaki paired with neutrals and a bright pop of colour is so fun for Winter. Don't think I can pull off fluoro pants but I'm all over that graphic print sweater!

kit:gorman

Yesterday I was lucky enough to attend the launch of a collaboration between clothing label Gorman and Kit cosmetics. I have been a fan of Kit nail polishes for years and have built up quite a collection, the colour I left with (almost mauve) is the perfect shade - soft and neutral that goes with everything. I also got my nails done with the leopard print stick-on nail strips, I have never tried these before but they are actually pretty fun and have held up well overnight. Now can we talk about those leopard print Gorman trousers!?

sonomama

Phillip Lim Fall 2013 'Sonomama'

This is quite possibly one of my favourite Phillip Lim collections to date! Dressing for a New York winter has given me a new appreciation for a perfectly cut wool coat, mix this with leather and knitwear and that's essentially all I want to wear in the cooler months. I also love the colour palette - tan, navy, khaki, grey and black (classics) but then with a splash of teal and pink.

currently

It's been great getting back into projects this last week, not to mention burning candles, buying flowers, and re-decorating our workspace. In between working on a few design and styling jobs I have been flicking through the new issue of Vogue Australia (gosh, I still love Lara), organising my jewellery collection (a beautiful new Estelle Dévé necklace and some more tiny rings from Catbird NYC), scanning in polaroids and going through my inspiration archives (where I discovered this 2007 Christmas card from Acne). So far, so good!

lonely

Our latest post for Vogue Spy Style is now up featuring my new favourite lingerie set from Lonely by Lonely Hearts. It was so lovely to have this beautiful package waiting for me when I arrived back home, there is something about ivory lace that is just so perfect.

Thankyou Keya & Lonely!

saint laurent

I had mixed feelings about the Saint Laurent re-brand, but now as the debut collection is arriving in stores Rohan and I are finding ourselves wanting just about everything. For me it's all about the hat, I'm not sure how often I would wear it but I like the idea of it, a lot. The high-top sneakers are Rohan's favourite (Hedi Slimane used to design his favourite shoes for Dior Homme) and we both love lots of black.
I also like that they have kept the original YSL typographic logo alongside the new Saint Laurent one too.

the new modern

The New Modern

Kati Nescher photographed by Patrick Demarchelier for UK Vogue February 2013.

I'm back! The last two days have been busy with unpacking and catching up on emails but it feels good to be home. I couldn't stop thinking about Summer towards to the end of my trip, growing up in Australia (even Canberra) it just never gets as cold as the Northern Hemisphere. Nine weeks of New York Winter later and it's lovely to be warm again (even if it has rained non stop since my return).

I'm looking forward to sharing more of my trip with you and have some exciting things planned for the new year. At the moment I'm loving seeing all the new Spring magazine issues and putting together an inspiration board for the last month of Summer. More to come soon!
