manhattan

At the end of November I'm off to New York for three months. Rohan will also be joining me for a few weeks and we can't wait to explore the city together! Would love to hear any tips you have for sight seeing, restaurants & cafes, shopping etc. Thankyou!

  3. Lucky you! I wish I could to NYC too! Maybe not now... as there was a storm (dreadful) but in the future

  5. I had a really amazing dinner this summer at The Redhead on the Lower East Side. It's a tiny speakeasy style restaurant serving Southern style food (incredible cornbread!) in a really relaxed setting. I thoroughly recommend. Hopefully this awful storm will pass before you go!

  8. I went over a year ago, for only a week. I didn't find many good places to eat, but did really like Little Italy - a whole strip of cute, well-priced Italian restaurants.

Williamsburg in Brooklyn is a cute shopping area and if you walk down towards the river there is a great vintage clothing store.

I recommend checking out off-Broadway productions, as they can be a lot more interesting (and cheaper) than the major Broadway shows. When I was there I got to see a play written by Zach Braff (from Scrubs, Garden State) and spotted him there watching too! If you like comedy, check out Hot Tub with Kurt and Kristen: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Hot-Tub-with-Kurt-and-Kristen/229155770433385 (if you know Flight of the Conchords, Kristen is Mel, the crazy fan, and she co-hosts a weekly comedy show in Brooklyn. I think one of the best things about New York is that there is something exciting to do every night. If you are into music, it is really cheap to see bands over there.

Check out Central Park and the major department stores in that area. Have a hot dog (they are miniature, unlike most food in NY!) And just do lots of walking and see what you stumble upon. Have fun!
