the row
This is my official inspiration for fall, so sleek, so cool. I love the contrast of the peter pan collar blouse with the leather shorts, the simplicity of leather leggings with a white shirt and the oh so chic man-style tailoring.

skyspace
I hope everyone had an amazing new years! Ours was spent watching The Wire, eating ice cream and falling asleep shortly after midnight. One of the highlights from my trip was James Turrell's Within Without skyspace installation at the National gallery. I mentioned it before and it certainly didn't disappoint, it was amazing to actually spend half an hour staring at the sky and watching the colour it took on as you were affected by the contrast of the interior walls.
The viewing chamber was set to a timer so the colour of the lights around the wall changed every few minutes. As this happened you started to perceive the sky differently, I jotted some notes down so I wouldn't forget! Most striking was the hot pink wall making the sky look an amazing aqua/teal blue and the grey wall which made the sky deep green.
One of my new years resolutions is to write more on this blog, I am always much more comfortable using just images but this year is all about trying new things for me. I'm also trying to abide by a more stoic (read: stress free) philosophy inspired by the book Meditations by Caesar Marcus Aurelius.
"A little flesh, a little breath and a reason to rule all - that is myself."
What are your resolutions?

michael k williams is awesome
T bought me the road for xmas; we both read it and then got the movie. michael k williams is in it as the thief - and i've never felt as bad for a character in a book/movie, ever, as i did for this one. it's just terrible (the situation i mean). he gets left with less than nothing. reading the book i felt sort of bad for the thief, but my god, in the film williams just kills it. i'd only seen him before as omar little in the wire, where he's amazing, but words cannot express the impact of his (too brief) performance in the road. the man's a genius. he's just knocked ian mcshane off the top of my list of most awesome male actors.

within without
Ro and I will be heading down to Canberra for New Years to celebrate with my family. There are a few things I enjoy doing when i'm down there, and one of my favourites is visiting the National Gallery of Australia. A friend recommended we check out James Turrell's Within Without, a complex skyscape viewing chamber which affects the way we perceive the sky.
Viewing is recommended at either dawn or dusk to witness the light at its most dramatic. "In asking us to take the time to notice these subtleties, Turrell reveals the immensity of the natural world and the beauty of celestial architecture."

Industrie
Rohan picked up the second issue of U.S. magazine Industrie last week, an in-depth look at the real movers and shakers in fashion. This issue has an amazing interview with art director Fabien Baron, an interesting article about Dior's perfume development and an 18 page Rodarte special.
I can't get enough of Rodarte lately, I love that they are inspired by where they grew up in Santa Cruz, never reference other fashion designers and always make garments the best they possibly can be without the the pressure of commercial appeal. They also chat briefly about designing the costumes for Black Swan which I can't wait to see when it comes out here in January.
Wishing you all a happy holiday!
